He has a biology degree from Brown University and a master in journalism from Columbia. Mr. Revkin spent 5 years writing books. His first book “The Burning Season” won the Sichey Hillman Foundation Book Prize and Robert F. Kennedy Book Award. The book was also the basis for the HBO Film of the same name. The film won two Golden Globes and two Emmys. Prize winning journalist and author, Andrew Revkin has spent 20 years covering a variety of subjects, such as the political clash over global warning. Since 1995, he has been reporting for the New York Times, mainly covering environment issues.

In National News…
First-degree murder charges were dropped on Monday, against one of the four teens accused in the brutal beating of a Chicago honor student that was recorded with a cell phone. 18 year old, Eugene Bailey, of Chicago was arrested September 26, two days after 16-year old Derrion Albert was killed during a fight after classes let out. Prosecutors dropped the charge with little explanation. Baileys family claimed Eugene Bailey, was not at the fatal fight and police misidentified him in the video. The three other teens are all are being held without bail. Their next court date is Friday.

In Local News…
The first round of swine flu vaccine, in the form of a nasal mist will arrive in New Jersey as early as next week. The mist is reversed for healthy people ages 2 to 49, under guidelines by U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. New Jersey has reported 16 deaths and 977 confirmed cases of swine flu to the CDC.
In National News…
Toyota Motor Corp. said on Tuesday it will recall 3.8 million vehicles in the United States, to address problems with a removable floor mat that could cause accelerators to get stuck which can lead to a tragic crash or serious injuries. The recall will involve popular models such as Toyota Camry’s and Toyota Prius.
In World News…
A quake triggers a tsunami in Samoas, killing dozens and leaving several workers missing at National Park Service facilities. Cars and people were swept out to sea by the floodwaters as survivors fled to higher ground. At least 39 people were killed but the death toll is expected to rise.
In Sports…
NY Yankees beat Kansas City Royals 4-3. Juan Miranda hit a shot off Farnsworth’s leg, which proved to be the game winner in the ninth inning. NJ Devils close out their preseason by beating the NY Islanders 4-2.
In Entertainment News…
“Jon & Kate Plus” will now become Kate Plus 8. TLC has decided to drop Jon and focus on Kate as a single mother. The show plans to return in November.

In Local News…
A 17- year old Roxbury teen who is charged with attempted murder in a stabbing at a Roxbury house party in May will be tried as an adult, after yesterdays ruling in Superior Court in Morristown, authorities said. Skyler Gains, was not invited to the party and was asked to leave. A scuffle took place; Gains stabbed a 22- year old in the stomach. Gains was arrested after the incident took place. Gains was charged with two counts of attempted murder, several counts of attempted murder, and two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of unlawful possessions of a weapon. Gains is now awaiting another hearing to determine his incarnation placement.

Somali pirates seized a Chinese cargo ship on Monday with 25 people onboard. The attack occurred early Monday in the Indian Ocean about 700 miles east of the lawless Somali Coastline. Cmdr, John harbor said that the coalition forces had observed at least two pirates onboard the deck of the De Xin Hai and the cargo ship also was towing two light skiffs used by the pirates behind it. Somali used sophisticated equipment and large ships to enable them to strike hundreds of miles offshore. The capture of the Chinese ship brings to six the total number of vessels currently in the hands of Somali pirates.

The Angles beat the Yankees 5-4 in the 11th inning. New York Yankees still lead in the AL championship series to 2-1.

In Entertainment News…
TLC is suing Jon Gosselin for breaching his contract with “Jon & Kate Plus 8”. The lawsuit alleges that Gosselin hasn’t met the obligations of his contract as an exclusive employee, has appeared on other programs for profit and made unauthorized disclosures about the show.

In Local News…
A man died after falling out of a horse trailer on the NJ Turnpike, next to exit 13 according to state police. Detective Brain Polite stated “We have reports if multiple people on the trailer. The one man died on the scene after falling from the trailer and that he was still indentified. According to Turnpike authority, Joseph Orlando state police immediately began a fatal accident investigation without calling any ambulances, because it was clear that the man was dead. The driver of the trailer apparently continued to his destination without realizing that someone had fallen out. State police impounded the vehicle later on.
In Other Local News…
A man is accused of spitting toilet water at a New Jersey police officer. The man was arrested for fighting. While at the police station the man took a mouthful of water from the toilet and spit at the officer. Shawn Holland was taken into custody after officers tried to question him and tried to leave and struggled with police. Holland was charged with resisting arrest, making terroristic threats and criminal mischief.
In World News…
An attack on election convey kills 21 Filipinos. Dozens of gunman hijacked a convoy carrying journalists, supporters and family of a candidate for provincial governor on Monday in southern Philippines. This attack is considered the worst political violence in years. Army troops later found the bullet-riddled bodies of13 women and 8 men. It was unclear if anyone survived the attack. An army and police search was under way for other hostages. The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines said at least 10 local reporters were part of the convoy. Their organization failed to reach them, leading to conclude they too were killed. Victim’s relatives blamed political rivals in national election slated for May 2010.

Eight Russian bomb disposal experts were killed Monday as they cleaned up after a massive fire at a navy arsenal 10 days earlier. A shell “self-detonated” as ammunition was being loaded onto a truck at Russian navy Arsenal. The ammunition in the truck exploded killing eight technicians and wounding two others.

Final box office figures for "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" showed the movie's ticket sales rising to $142.8 million from an estimated $140.7 million last weekend. "New Moon" opened on Friday as a sequel to last year's "Twilight." It enjoyed the biggest opening weekend of 2009 and placed third for the top opening weekend ever behind last year's Batman movie "The Dark Knight" ($158 million) and 2007's "Spider-Man 3" ($151 million). "New Moon" also set a record on Friday for box office results from midnight screenings, with $26.3 million.

In Local News…
Union County Sheriff Officers seeking a fugitive on Monday, found him dangling from a fifth floor window in an attempt to escape. After pulling the suspect inside to safety, the officers promptly arrested him. Jerry Herbert of Elizabeth was wanted on a sentencing warrant issued by Superior Court after failing to appear in court last week. Herbert, 36, was facing five years in prison as a result of a plea deal on various drug charges. When Sgt. Caparruva asked Herbert what he was thinking when he went out the window Herbert replied, “I would just drop and roll.”
Herbert was transported to the Union County Jail without further incident to await sentencing.


Other Local News…
Linden High School was locked down yesterday when a weapon was found, and police later confiscated a BB gun and arrested a student. The gun, a realistic-looking black metal handgun, was brought to school by a 16-year-old in the 11th grade at Linden High.Apparently it was observed by another student who notified school officials. The lockdown was called by the school administration, not police because of the possible threat to the school population. Police said there were no injuries in the incident, and it remains under investigation by the Linden police department's juvenile bureau, which is looking into the student's motivation for bringing the gun to school. The 16-year-old already has been charged with charges including weapons possession, and may face special charges due to bringing the gun on school property.

World News…
Bombings in two Pakistan cities killed 46 people on Monday. The two bombs went off around the same time at a popular market killing 36 people. Many victims were women and children. Earlier that day a suicide bomber killed 10 people outside a courthouse.



In National News…
State Prosecutors will not press criminal charges against a Connecticut woman who owned a 200 pound chimpanzee that mauled her friend Charla Nash leaving her blind and severely disfigured. Connecticut State attorney David Cohen called the attack a “horror” and said the facts were “uncontroverted’. The investigation has not discovered any evidence that the chimp’s owner was aware of the risk that chimpanzee posed and disregarded it. The animal had not previously exhibited violent behavior towards the victim before. The victim’s family has filled a civil suit against the chimp’s owner and wants to sue the state for $150 million.

Tiger Woods’s image tarnished as women continue to come forward claiming to have had affairs with golf superstar tiger Wood. Tabloids are reporting at least 9 women are linked to Tiger Woods in alleged affairs.

The top three movies in the box offices this weekend, number three Brothers making 9.7 million it first week out. Twilight Saga: New Moon comes in at number two making 15Million for its 3rd week. The number one movie in the box office this week is The Blind Side making 20 million, this film also has been out for 3 weeks but grossed more than Twilight surprisingly.
