The Obama administration is debating whether to send more troops to Afghanistan. They already have 21,000 soldiers stationed at Afghanistan. Many soldiers that have deployed over the summer have died by roadside bombs and ambushes, as they battle to take back Taliban controlled areas. This year has been the deadliest year for American troops since the 2001 invasion. Over 214 troops have been killed so far this year which is well ahead of the 151 who died in all of 2008. Many Americans oppose increasing the troop levels in Afghanistan and one of those people would be Lystra Lewis, “I strongly oppose the sending of more troops into Afghanistan due to the fact that many of them are dying unnecessarily which causing stress on their family daily lives and countless money that is going to waste could be utilized in many more beneficial ways.” Lystra clearly disagrees with sending more troops yet some Americans do agree and JD Damas is one of them “I think we do need to send more troops to Afghanistan, in order to fight off hordes of Taliban that have infiltrated there country. We can’t allow the Taliban to set up shop where ever they please. If we have enough troops and fire power to stop this threat I say send them!”
Many Americans have different views over the debate on whether sending more troops to Afghanistan would be a good decision. As the Obama administration comes up with a decision over the war, we can only pray for our troops to come home safely. I’m Chenelle Damas for WKNJ 90.3 FM.
